Field Day 2010

Report by Brian Esche WB9QVR

I compiled the numbers from FD into the table below. The total number of QSOs in 2009 was 1107 so this year's effort represents quite an increase! I've forwarded the log files to N9OL for submission to the ARRL. I think we can all be very proud of what we accomplished. We came extremely close to a clean sweep of all the sections (missing only Newfoundland)! By itself that is quite a feat. I also think that everyone involved contributed much to the overall team effort and that is something to be proud of as well. Now we just have to start planning for next year...

TARS Field Day 2010 - USI

TARS radio operators in 24-hour national off-grid field
exercise this weekend at USI.

Amateur Radio Operators of the Tri-State Amateur Radio Society are participating in a 24-hour, off-the-grid national field exercise to set up and operate emergency communication systems using using digital and satellite capabilities, voice communications, radio and even Web hybrid systems along with historic Morse code showing ham radio is at the forefront of technology. Ham radio developed the original texting technologies so popular today.
Gov. Daniels has declared June 21-28, Amateur Radio Week in preparation for this event.

Saturday, June 26 through Sunday, June 27, 11 a.m. to 10 a.m. Special Get On the Air (GOTA) operations are set up for the public. If you have any interest we will have someone available to help you Get On The Air and join in the fun.

TARS FD Location Map

During fires, earthquakes, tornados and other crises, Amateur Radio is often the only way by which people communicate. Amateur Radio operators are often the first to provide critical early information and observations to responders in crisis situations when cell phone towers are out and power lines down cut Internet access. This exercise provides a chance for the public to meet and talk with the hams and see for themselves what the Amateur Radio Service is about.

Emergency Communications Class

PDF

An amateur radio emergency communications class will be held Saturday
June 12 at the old Warrick County courthouse (107 W. Locust St. in Boonville - the southwest corner of the state).

It will run from 9 AM (Central) until approximately 2 PM. The course will cover EmComm dos, don'ts, how tos, processes and procedures. The training is not specific to either ARES or RACES but rather is concerned with general concepts. Anyone who is interested in EmComm is welcome to attend. Please contact Brian WB9QVR if you think you might want to attend.

If you arrive Saturday morning you may find the doors to the building are locked. I will watch for people at the doors to admit you into the facility.
If there is no response at the door please call me (WB9QVR) on 146.52 simplex or on my cell phone at 812-455-9797 and I'll have someone let you into the building.

2010 Field Day

PDF

Hello and once again it's that time of year for portable operation and field day.
Fun times, cold drinks, food and of course ham radio and hopefully lots of QSO's.
OK, here's the scoop. A few of us will be headed out to this year's operating site
at USI to set up antennas Friday evening June 25 at 6 PM. This will give
us a head start before ramping up on Saturday. For those who can come out and
help great but "more importantly", if you can't make it Friday by all means come out
and join in the fun Saturday and Sunday. We always welcome operators and if you
have a buddy interested in ham radio bring him or her with you......
We'll have two SSB stations, a CW station and a GOTO station and a 6 Meter Station, so
you see ................... we'll need OPS. On the other hand, if you want to come by and
observe, please do...We'll have munchies and drinks waiting....
One more request.....pass along this email to invite other hams....you think would be
interested.....
Thank you....
