Winter Field Day

E-mail Print PDF

UPDATE- 2-11-11.  We had a beautiful day for operating outside for Winter Field Day with sunshine and near-50 degree weather.  We set up a couple of stations, had some great QSO's and had a very nice time.  Chris KE9YK provided a pot of his famous bean soup, and corn bread as well.  Thank you Chris, and thanks to all who came out and participated.  If you couldnt make it out well, you missed a great time.  We will get some pictures posted asap.  73!   - N9oL

Winter Field day is approaching January 29th, 2011.
This year we will hold it at Wesselman’s Park. Set up about 9:00 AM. We have two shelters
to choose from. The southern one (we used last time) has very little wind block from southern
winds. The northern shelter has many more trees and should provide a good wind block. We will
determine which one to use by the weather situation that morning.
Chris KE9YK will bring is wonderful bean soup. The club will provide hot coffee and possibly donuts.

TARS radio operators in 24-hour national off-grid field exercise at USI June 25th-26th.

Amateur Radio Operators of the Tri-State Amateur Radio Society are participating in a 24-hour, off-the-grid national field exercise to set up and operate emergency communication systems using using digital and satellite capabilities, voice communications, radio and even Web hybrid systems along with historic Morse code showing ham radio is at the forefront of technology. Ham radio developed the original texting technologies so popular today.

Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m. through Sunday, June 26, 10 a.m. Special Get On the Air (GOTA) operations are set up for the public. If you have any interest we will have someone available to help you Get On The Air and join in the fun.

TARS FD Location Map

During fires, earthquakes, tornados and other crises, Amateur Radio is often the only way by which people communicate. Amateur Radio operators are often the first to provide critical early information and observations to responders in crisis situations when cell phone towers are out and power lines down cut Internet access. This exercise provides a chance for the public to meet and talk with the hams and see for themselves what the Amateur Radio Service is about.
